Admission and Discharge Policies

Shankara Cancer Hospitals are committed to delivering world-class patient care through transparent and patient-centric admission and discharge processes. Our priority is to ensure that patients have a smooth and supportive experience. Our admission and discharge policies cover the admission process, patient rights, responsibilities, and the discharge process.

Admission

  • You need to contact the admission desk and book a ward of your choice, at least 48 hours before the planned admission.
  • You pay an initial deposit at the time of admission. You will be given a receipt for the payment.
  • If you are to undergo surgery, a non-refundable OT advance will be added to your initial deposit. This will be adjusted against the final bill.
  • In case of emergency admission, the emergency and admission teams will coordinate your admission.
  • You require a Govt. ID Card. Aadhar Card, Driving License, PAN Card and Passport are accepted.
  • In case you are covered by health insurance, please carry your health insurance policy card or policy number.
NOTE:
If you are registered with BSKY, you must produce your BSKY Card / BSKY NABIN Card to avail of the benefits of BSKY at Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Centre & Research Institute, Bhubaneswar and Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, Bengaluru. 

Payment can be made through:

  • Cash (not more than INR 2000 per payment)
  • Debit Card
  • Credit Card
  • UPI - GPay / Paytm / PhonePe / BHIM UPI or any other UPI payment app
  • You may retain your bed as long as necessary. You will be charged for the bed and ward accordingly.
  • For surgical procedures, if you are shifted to the OT or the ICU and your relatives want to retain your room, double occupancy (Bed charge + ICU charges) will be charged for the duration. Some insurance policies may not cover these double occupancy charges, please ensure you check with your insurance provider.

Yes, you can transfer your bed from one ward to another, subject to availability. When you transfer your bed from one category of ward to another, the higher category ward charges and associated auxiliary charges will be applicable for the entire duration of the stay.

  • You will be kept updated about the status of our initial deposit amount.
  • Our billing department will connect with you for any outstanding bill amounts.
  • You will be intimated about subsequent deposits depending on the treatment rendered.
  • You can pay the outstanding balance amount within 12 hours.

Check-list to follow before admission

Govt. ID Card - Aadhar Card, Driving License, PAN Card and Passport are acceptable.
BSKY Card / BSKY NABIN Card, if you want to avail the benefits of the BSKY Scheme.
If you are advised for pre-planned admissions and surgery, contact the admission desk and confirm your admission and ward, at least 48 hours prior.
For Admission and Bed confirmation, make financial arrangements and insurance details for advance payment during ward confirmation.

Discharge

Discharge advice will be provided by your treating doctor after completion of your treatment regimen.

  • Remember to check your room before leaving. The hospital is not responsible for your personal belongings/valuables left behind after your stay.
  • Remember to vacate the room at the earliest to allow fellow patients to avail the room and other required facilities. 
  • Full-day bed charge will be applicable starting 48 hours after your consulting oncologist processes your discharge.
  • A nurse will inform you when your consulting oncologist has approved your discharge.
  • This will be followed by the processing of your discharge summary and final bill. This may take a few hours, we thank you for your patience.
  • Following the completion of the discharge summary and the final bill, you will be required to clear the final bill at the Admission and Discharge section in the ground floor.
  • You can then collect the “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) from the Admission and Discharge section and submit the NOC at the nursing station.
  • The Duty Doctor will explain the discharge summaries along with other important instructions.
  • If you have follow-up appointments, the floor manager will help you in setting up the appointments.
  • In case you require a wheelchair, stretcher or ambulance; please inform the Floor Manager at the earliest.

The hospital employees have been instructed not to accept any tips or gratuities from patients or visitors. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining this policy.

Check-list to follow when leaving

Buy the necessary medicines for discharge and return the extra medication.
Return all food cutlery and utensils.
Check the wardrobe, furniture and bathroom of your ward for personal items.
Collect a copy of the hospital bill and discharge summary.
Ensure that you have received the discharge prescriptions from the doctor. If you do not understand the instructions, please contact the nurse.
Book a follow-up appointment as advised by your consulting oncologist.
