Referring a Patient
Thank you for referring your patient to Shankara Cancer Hospitals. You can be assured that your patient will receive the best Oncology Care.
What does the patient need for their consultation appointment?
You are requested to advise the patient to carry the following on the day of their consultation appointment:
- Referral letter provided by you
- Government-issued ID card
- Recent Medical Reports
- Regular Medications
- Recent Blood Test Results
- Recent Histopathology Results, if available
- Recent Imaging & Scans - CT, MRI, PET
- Current Treatment
When the patient arrives at the hospital for their appointment, what do they do?
- The patient will contact the Patient Relations Manager.
- The patient and their attender then proceed to the Reception / Corporate Billing Cell and present the referral letter.
- The referral letters must follow the guidelines of the issuing organisation.

For patients covered under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS)
- The CGHS pensioner must submit a written requisition from the CGHS medical officer for the prescribed tests.
- If further tests are required, a new requisition from the CGHS medical officer has to be submitted by the CGHS pensioner.
- The referral letter should specify the name of the surgery/test/procedure and its code.
- Patients undergoing chemotherapy shall procure the chemotherapy medicine from the CGHS dispensary.
- As per CGHS rules, non-admissible items (such as diapers and disposables) will be charged to the CGHS patients at the time of discharge.
- During an emergency, CGHS cancer patients can be admitted without a referral letter.
