Fellowship in Palliative Care

The fellowship course on pain and palliative care at Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre will train doctors in managing problems in cancer patients who are suffering from pain, distress, poor quality of life and end-of-life issues. It is a one-year training programme which will expose the candidate to a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care and its palliation and enhance their skills related to communication, decision-making, procedural skills, ethical practice, leadership and research.

Course Objectives

  1. There are several course objectives which will cover the entire gamut of topics right from basics physiology to advanced pain management procedures.
  2. The interaction would include pharmacotherapy based on the WHO ladder, other USG and fluoroscopy-based interactions like coeliac plexus blocks, blocks of other ganglia, neuroablative procedures, RFA and kypho or vertebroplasty and many more advanced procedures.

More Information

  1. The candidate will be trained to deliver treatment in three different settings i.e., hospital wards, outpatient and domiciliary care.
  2. Their treatment will also include inputs from other specialities like physiotherapists, dieticians, social and spiritual workers, psychotherapists and nurses.

Admission Details

Admission to the Fellowship programme will be based on merit.

The selection process will constitute 2 phases:

  1. Written Examination
  2. Viva-Voce

The top candidates will be shortlisted for the fellowship programme.
